Hi guyz ,

I am Jasneet from New delhi, and have 3.5 yrs of exp (IT)
I am looking for a 1 yr mba program..

I applied in 4 colleges in UK.

1. Durham business school -- got a rejection from thr .. stating that i am short on experience.

2. Leeds business school - again got rejection , reason the same as above.

3.Nottingham university business school - I got a conditional offer from there .. condition being IELTS >= 7.

4. Birmingham university business school -- Decision still awaited.

So guyz now my question is ...

How is nottingham University business school (NUBS) ?

Does anybody know about the education over thr .. the tie ups of the university with companies ? job placements ?

any alumni member from thr ?

Please share ur views/ opinions/ suggestions ..

I m confused whether i shall go thr or not ...

Thanks ...

@Jasneet
As you don't have an offer from LUBS, so I wud suggest you to go for NUBS(Nottingham). It is a v. good business school and well reputed in UK... It is AMBA accredited as well... Also, it is Ranked in FT TOP 100 Global MBA and EIU(Economist Intelligence Unit) and among TOP 10 Business Schools in UK IN RAE(Research Assessment Exercise) 2008... I suggest you to go through - RAE 2008 Ratings + TQA + The times publication UK + FT Rankings + EIU.... All the BEST!!! Thanks !!!

Hi Indresh

Nice to hear from you.
Well I have applied in near about 10 Business Schools in UK (Lancaster, Bath, Bradford, strathclyde, Nottingham, Brunel, Durham, Leeds, Aston, Edinburgh). However my application has been rejected from Lancaster and Durham and Waiting for the Interview from Bradford. Still waiting for the reply from rest of the Universities.

As far as Placement is concerned, I am trying to track as much information as possible, However I have followed Financial Times official Website.

Hey can u please let me know your contact details. My e-mail ID is [email protected].

Dear Friends,
I also got offers from Leeds and Nottingham for September 2009 full time MBA programme. As the investment is big, 20 lakhs plus so I discussed with friends about career and job prospects. They say it's not very good. These universities do not provide placements. We have to search jobs in fairs. I tried to find placement statistics of UK B schools, but did not succeed. The quality of education is really good but I am worried about the return on investment. Suppose we have to return India after MBA, then how to repay the loans of 20 lakhs. The EMI will be quite large sum. Most of the students return to India after MBA.
Friends, what do you feel about the post MBA prospects and return on investment. Please guide and show some light.

Warm regards

Dear HK,

These universities have placement cells but no. of placements provided is very less.I confirmed this with previous years students at Nottingham Most probably we have to search job ourselves.Leeds is better than Nottingham in almost all respects.
I agree with you that ROI is important factor but only some top UK B schools provide good placements.

As far as placements stat is concerned you can get those only by directly contacting university.

U take a rough idea at ft.com

I just got a offer from nottingham... ittle aprehensive about accepting it as u say its huge investment.College is good but i know so many from last batch who are still looking for work.UK colleges do have employment cells but its not like campus placements in US or India.so ur kinda on ur own really.People do return to india and do get good payed jobs there but the loan amount little difficult to be payed off on indian salaries. Nottingham city is beautiful but we must not forget gun crimes there.
Thing is college does have a good reputation among local market here.Like aston and bradford isnt really recoginsed by people .but nottingham they do recognise the name.
Also to keep in mind is time taken to get job after uni.u need to keep that expenditure in mind.UK cost of living is really high.with bad market temporary student jobs are not so readily available. well these are my concerns so am thinking aloud. And also for future jobs its high likely to be based on ur current field.if ur looking for a change then im not sure .

Dear,

Thank you very much for honest views. We appreciate your great research and analysis.

Did you decide any school? We are all concerned about the return. After all, we do not want to go for one year expensive outing with uncertain future.

The money spent will be around 20-25 lakhs for single person.
Can any body give insights about the return and post MBA jobs? We feel that UK scene is not very good. We have to return to India.

If we have to go back to same jobs in India after MBA, of course with international MBA exposure, then how to pay back the heavy loans. We feel that it will be big risk to put all our savings for one year MBA without assessing the prospects.

Please put your views.

Hello,

I have Durham and Nottingham, Exeter, Glasgow and Leicester offers and the research I have done hass confused me more than it answered questions.

Durham MBA

Pro

Durham is now triple accredited and Times 2010 ranking gives 8th place, Guardian 2010 gives it 14th place, FT 2009 places it at 80th but this was before they were triple accredited so I am assuming Durham is going to jump the rankings in FT next year like Stratclyde jumped after it received triple accredition, they have companies like KPMG, Accenture, Barclays, LLoyds, BP recruiting MBA's. Oldest going by the history after Oxford and Cambridge.

Against arguments

They haven't consistently made the top lists for last 5 years, university is not campus based like Nottingham, Durham is a small city compared to Nottingham and London. Based on the tidbits on the blogs, I could find I think MBA is not paid as much attention by the university as compared to say Nottingham MBA, I welcome criticism on this point.

Nottingham
--------------

MBA has consistently made the top list, research is better than Durham, Has broader ranking coverage by beyondgreypinestripe and rae. Better campus and thought out MBA program. Better local internships/jobs as city is bigger than Durham.

Cons
------
Has slid in rankings lately, apart from coprporate social responsibility, no leading programs. Durham scores over it in most of the forums. High number of asian students who are considered a liability than asset(general feeling in the west) to a business school.

These are my inferences from my own research and would love to know other viewpoints. Good MBA hunt to fellow aspirants.

Go 2009 MBA!

I know MBA Durham quite well, how on earth do they accept people with merely a couple of years of experience is beyond me. Few students ( Chinese if you dont mind me saying ) dont command their English as as MBA student. I suspect maybe they cheat in the IELTS exam.

Also, they are not third oldest University in the UK, but in England only, if you expand to UK.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_oldest_university_in_England_debate
Read this and they also debates that Durham is not third oldest in England, if you look at when it was founded, it is not very old.

The ranking is better than Nottingham though but the City is tiny. recently their Dean committed plagiarism and was expelled. This is a disgrace for Durham.

Hi,

Getting MBA students with bad English is equally true for Nottingham. For that matter I assume all the schools who recruit from non English speaking countries with optional IELTS and GMAT run the risk of having that problem. I am not worried about that, my worry is if I compare the 2 which one should I choose. I don't think couple of places in the ranking matter much as long as they are in top 100. I am strongly inclined to join Nottingham as I know the professor of marketing who has a phd from Oxford and is an exceptional generalist. What do you think about Durham/Nottingham MBA program and placements.

well as far as english i guess thats not a thing of concern. Its a foriegn language so like indians speak with a different accent no matter how good your vocalbulary and neutral accent u have.there is still few things which make u sound foriegn so big deal id chinese don't have that much command over the language.
Durham i hear is good.if we look at it from ranking prespective then durham looks good not because it is ranked above notts this year but because it is rising up and notts is sliding down.that could be reason for concern, why isn't the school not doing enuf to maintain rankings? whats going wrong and y is it sliding? but durham and nottingham a far from london so none of them have advantage of location. For MBA kind of jobs u know london is like the place hardly anything will u find in other towns. not there there aren't but what ever is available is very very very sparse. im planning to quit my job in uk and take up notts MBA but hav a feeling after which ill not have much chance of job here so might have to try in india.
sanjay no doubt the school have good profs and stuff but placements in almost all schools are nil.. may be lbs, warwick, oxford and cambridge fare lot better on this topic but rest all are on the same boat. ull have companies come to campus they give u presentation about themselves and then go.if u want to apply(provided they have vaccany) u need to do thru thier website so there is no much added advantage of that presentation or them coming to campus.so what i would recomend is if ur sure of the subjects u want to study and sure of what exactly are u going to do after MBA like how will u be able to go back to your previous industry of work and how much will they regard ur MBA with previous work ex,only then go for it. Last thing anybody wants is to quit a secure job spend all the money and also have huge debt and be looking for jobs after graduation.
sanjay if it is marketing ur looking for then i hear durham is better than notts. but im somehow convinced on the whole nottingham is better.well that's for me.so will not be able to coment on ur prefrences.
if i have confused u further then i appologise ;o)

Tushar i guess ur still alright with accom and travel.if u accept then decide where u want to stay? uni accomdation or private. if uni then they would have sent u links for it but if private then decide what kind of place are u looking for a appartment for urself/studio or shared accomadation. ull be able to find them on gumtree. but before coming here i wouldn't recomend on u getting a private place just by looking at internet pics. uni accom u can book with out worrying but if it is private place ur looking for then book a reasonably priced bed and breakfast place and then come here and look for it with agents. u can search for BnB's in laterooms or lastmintue or hotels.com

royal holway is very close to london which implies high living costs.but it is also place where ull find lot of desi's which has its own advantage and disadvantages.

strathclyde do u have time to re-take the test now?
<blockquote>hi friends, this is tushar , here . I am mechanical engineer from pune with 4 years experience I have a unconditional offer from nottingham , conditional from strathclyde ( gmat 620+ mine is 580), uncondi from royal holloway and a few unis more but really in the league of say warwick or lancaster. I have decided to finalise on nottingham. Is there any post here for people accepted at nottingham , we could just share info on travel plans , accomodation or hostel applications and stuff like that.I am running pretty late on the process so any help /guidance on these issues would be GR8. hi hs,
I am so bent upon getting a good gmat that I have a appointment , tomorrow 2 : 00 pm. it is my final pre MBA , if I score good i will just drop off Uk plans and start for US . Anyways i have set myself atleast 20 % improvement from my previous score (580).
And i just want to put myself to test and check , so no regrets later. Also I have to deposit the money to nottingham , holloway,) tomorrow.(the advance)
Many people will agree with me on this, Somehow I feel a bit apprehensive/ unsure about going to a non gmat school, and nottingham costs around 19000 Pounds in dollars around 30000. With this money I am good for Texas A&M and similar colleges. Also the trend in Uk suggests that companies prefer MBA's from schools which take GMAT.(at least for london. this was stated to me from the represtative of Royal halloway in june at a consultants. Well all this info is not to confuse anyone but really contrasting and varied.
and hey HS , i hear that the job market is very dismal in UK and 90 % analyst say it is going to improve only in 2011 over there. matter of fact one of my friend in bradford says , none is getting even part time jobs. (also lots of asians in bradford so) whats your take on this issue.
and where are u going to ?
Note: strathclyde actually set the GMAt condi only because i had nt given IELTS , and had around 30 % in GMAT verbal.Essays more pathetic. Later I got 8.0 in Ielts but they just put the GMAT condition in offer letter.(may be the volume of applicants forces them to set such conditions)

Tushar

If u r writting GMAT again tmrw then all the best for it.If u get a good score ur better off going to us. atleast its bigger country ull find part time jobs and there is posibilty of better internships and placements from uni. Im not really sure on companies giving prefrence to uni's which have GMAT criteria. Because for them it doesn't really matter how good ur at math or vocab.they need to know u can count and speak and write properly here the approach is very different to indian high score in math will get u high mentality.I mean good scroes are must but only that isnt good enuf.. they will hire you purely on 'YOU' what is your previous exp what have u made of urself etc etc...
yeah bradford has lot of asains it would be like going to study in mini chandni chowk .only saving grace is uni.. which is very good but students from other asian countries don't real seem to have proper work ex.
my decidion to stay in uk is purely on personal reasons and also duration of course. if not for that i would have also applied for uni's in US. I have friends who studied and are studying in both US and UK .and i have seen job situation in uk first hand and new regulations of british jobs for british people and bad economic climate chance of finding jobs as a asian here is very difficult. Even if companies are ok they are let down by so many regulations they have to go thru to employ u.

Thing is MBA is hardly content based course if it is only content based ones then better to do MSc.So if college only considers GMAT scores and not quality of work exp then ill be seriously worried. esp for future employment and even personal grwoth fom course may not be that great.see if a typical class will have people from all background.Imagine it has a guy from finnace background with only 2 years of not so significant work ex but has brilliant score then ull be the one in serious trouble.he will not have much insight about that industry which means u can't get much from him. he himself may be a bright chap but how is it going to help u? May be im worrying little too much.. but the sheer cost of it overwhelming . in undergarduate days we knew if we got good percentage then we can sit for campus based interviews.but that won't be the case anymore.

Guys if you take GMAT, try ISB, IIM in India, local MBA's have better opportunities as of today. Capital Markets used to hire a lot of MBA's pre reccession but as you know most of them are still trying to recover and have cut down new hires, lately BOA has cancelled hundreds of offers it had made to MBA's from Cornell and other leading schools this year, and that is the general trend everywhere in US. I am considering MBA as a long term investment which will start paying back in 3-5 years, in short term I doubt it will make a lot of difference. UK schools give you an opportunity to do MBA in less time for reasonable amount of investment, it may or may not result in opportunities in UK right away as hs pointed out.

Personally I think there won't be a better time than this considering what is out there is not as promising for the future to come. I plan to specialize in Finance, hs which program you think is better for it, Nottingham I think. What say you?

Im also considering MBA as a long term investment thats why im planning to do it now coz with bad climate there wont be much growth career wise and this is something i have been planning on doing for long so for me personally this is the best time to do.Well sanjay even i want to take up finance but bear in mind finance doesn't really mean ull get indepth hand into finnace subjects.like general MBA it will make u jack of all trades master of none.so may be will have to look at other small courses in between to get more grip on finnace.well can discuss that with faculty and determine what should be our plan of action.
when i spoke to faculty and addmision office in notts they said there is no hard and fast rule that u need to tell in advance which stream u need to speacialize in. so u can start the course go thru subjects nd then tell them.well thats what im planning to do. If u can do im India nothing like it.

Hi Amit,

Again like I said. ROI will take a bit. The real question thou is whether you will be on the path which will take you there. MBA is not going to be an answer for all questions. You have to see if it is in you to become a leader and what have you done before getting an MBA and where does that leave you. If you have a good background MBA will help you make it even better. If you are a fresh out of school, it will put you on a path to gaining a good background. Monetary reward is going to be based on what you can bring to the table along with an MBA. So I say be objective and unbiased while you answer these questions. Strong answer to these questions should make a strong case for an MBA, rest is how people perceive the school you choose to go to.
Good Luck

so guys,
update from me on my GMAT test. I got 590 just 10 more. to sum up in one word "pathetic" quant was as usual decent but verbal sucked. so now i am sure to see you all at nottingham. few ruffled feathers have now settled.
A thought has me worried a bit.Nottingham is living off its reputation. Because if you ask any senior MBA , 9/10 will suggest nottingham against Durham , but durham constantly featuring in top 30's is worrying . Not that I envy junta at durham, but it also reflects the state of health of nottingham program,They better pull up their socks and reinvigorate the program.( also we are coming ) Nottingham featuring at 100 in ft ranking is a standing testimonial of that fact.
HS -- you being in UK , Are laptops cheaper there , many of my friends suggest London (duty free) etc . guide us bro.
just a passing thought , Nottingham vs Leeds.

ON GMAT
Reply to HS,
As u seem to suggest that the ad com should take into account you and only YOUR achievements into considerations. But achievements like earnings, plaudits , brilliance are relative factors. People have to be tested on a common platform . I believe GMAT provides that.( i am not a great proponent of GMAT's perfection) for example Fresher Vs experienced debate. Gmat etc settle that in a way that fresher will definitely have to score 700 as compared to 550-600 for a 5-7 year Pro.

Well that was from future employment prospective. When somebody has to employ you then why will they care about ur classmates brilliance?so high gmat score doesn't mean ul get employed as MBA grad. Good scores are very important there is no second doubt about it. what i meant is for a MS course yes only good score will get u a good place probably.but not in MBA well thats just to the trend i saw. very very good score doesn't give direct ticket.but you would imagine a person with good score will be relatively smart enuf to polish themselves in all the ways.
well im not bro :) and i guess that makes me lil dumb when it comes to keeping track of laptop prices :) but check in http://www.pcworld.co.uk/
http://www.currys.co.uk
http://direct.tesco.com/
comet.co.uk
this will give u idea of what prices are.If ask me US is heaper to get a laptop if u have to choose between india and uk unless its sale time or some big deal is out its better to get it in india.
problem is u need to keep ur eyes open for deals and that is really annoying bt it does pay to have that kind of patience

so guys,
update from me on my GMAT test.

Alos look at Uk trends , LSE< LBS

my friends say leeds is better but im somehow not convinced.so i guess u talk to aluminus of both colleges and see how satisfied they are with the course

FT and Eiu rankings are largely dependent upon no of papers produced and salary so as long as the school we choose is amongst top 100 in there I think it's okay

Nottingham looks good I think.

sanjay times survey puts cardiff before durham... now that makes it really dodgy .... guardian one is still consistent with other rankings... i guess best is FT stick to it. like u said as long as its in top 100 we shouldn't fare that bad

Hey friends,
doing lots of research on the net , was amazed to find so many people ready to join nottingham, also variety of programs like M arch.M in Indl electronics . Masters in .. so many. I did nt know that it was such a popular choice. I had applied by FT rankings. finally landed a rejection from Warwick , with a small catch. that they can take up my application in case of no confirmations upto 14 th august. and I recheck with them on 25 august.also i have to have a interview in person that means I have to be in UK by then. So real complicated. Frankly, I dont believe anyones going to let warwick offer go.HS what do you say? And sunjay, like last year there were 86 guys at notts , so each year do the numbers keep on fluctuating ?( also for other B schools ( say warwick )
This is a very good and advanced forum. Thanks to you guys, HS and Sunjay. btw I checked your profile on facebook , sanjay you are a pro. Finance whiz ( cant say kid ) it looks. looking forward to see you guys.
P.S HS : laptops and stuff. I better get a fully loaded one (with essential s/w and stuff). Cannot get anything cheaper than India except for maybe dubai.Just feels stupid to install all the stuff overall again......

Private accomodation could turn out cheaper depending upon the deal you get. You could go as luxury as you would like as opposed to what an university will provide you. Although you might end up paying your own electricity, heat, hot water, cable and internet on top of rent and food. University accomodation will be based on the spec like for 1 person or a family and the spec is pretty much defined already, take it or leave it. University accomodation are supposedly closer to the school so you save on commute and time. Also good for socializing as compared to private accomodation which are limited by the surrounding neighbourhood. Cleanliness will depend on individuals and roommates, I am not sure if university provides cleaning service, if I were to speculate I think they would as opposed to you having to pay for it if you choose private accomodation and safety will depend on the area and your attitude like in any city I assume, although university should be safer.

VISA from India:
I believe that the visa procedure is pretty much simple. It is Tier 4 visa for higher education. You submit docs to VFS , they process it in 8-10 days and grant visa.I have read on the VFS/ British embassy website that around 80-88 % applications are cleared by the 6th day from application. Though you will have to go to VFS to provide Biometric data,it is no worry.

H.S -- I called warwick , today they say a few seats are vacant till now and today is the last day to accept applications(though formal deadline was 31st july) . that proves they may increase intake or few offer letters are past their validity. Say, situation like warwick guys going to LBS , LSE , IMD , IE or HEC or deciding for US etc.

For the VISA , you have to show , arrangement of LIQUIDITY( only FD's , account balance ,1 day old) for program and living expenses , visa letter , 2 photos, etc nothing extraordinary or tedious.btw i have sought The Chopras as facilitator for further services. One of my friend recommended them on 4th august.I can provide any more details to if you required..

Oh yes please planning to go home(bangalore) before joining uni so better off getting visa done in india provided it takes 2 weeks else ill be late to college.

Do u have any clue on how much we need to show as living expenses ? Via letter is issued by uni after providing them with transcripts right? im being little stupid here but thought its better off clarifying everything to be clear :)

hi HS
Well according to my consultant we need to show around 6000( all in pounds) PLUS the fee 18000 (1000 already paid) .so it comes around 20-21 lakh rupees. Note that ,university offer letter to me suggests, the living cost at 8900 pounds. But I believe showing 6000-7000 is OK(needs confirmatiom) Also show 1-2 lakh spare in the account after deducting all the program and living expenses. It has a positive effect.

I guess that you just courier them the certified( stamped as TRUE copies from notary ) copies of transcripts and other documents mentioned in offer letter like Ielts transcripts, degree certificate. I guess that would be enough , as you dont want to trust any courier in the world with original documents.
bye

hi everyone,
As mentioned earlier , carrying out lots of research on the net for notts.I found out that student union is really impressive at nottingham. Its a very active and big community. I believe thats what sets notts apart from other schools and Uni's. I hope this also gets reflected in the rankings and in the minds of prospective students.
Also It seems that people have got placed a lot earlier. for ex. a girl on facebook , she was placed in march 09. It sets me thinking , if I am running late on finding accomodation /visas /etc. I even havent received Visa letter yet.is it my flip flop on picking universities causing these delays.?there is buzz that visa filing slots at pune etc will be getting full/crowded, coz it is PEAK student season for UK.any ideas..

Dear friends,
Great to see so many fellows for Nottingham MBA. I got offer from Nottingham and discussed with friends. The total cost for single student would be 25 lakhs.

Our major concern is ROI. Big investment and uncertain future. At present, placements are not very good. Most probably, we have to come back to India. UK jobs are difficult reality. Living costs are very high so no point to wait long in UK.

We feel 2010 would be more or less similar. The time of one year will elapse fast.

Can someone please tell about the placements and jobs after Nottingham MBA. Any netwok in India from UK MBA.

What is the prospect in India. Where we can expect to work.
Please throw some light.

Warm Regards

Hi all,

I have 3 yrs of work-ex and score of 720 (gmat), decent academic profile otherwise.
I know the application processes are over for most of the decent universities. My consultant also suggested that I should wait for next year, but has just processed my application for Nottigham, Royal Holloway and Glasgow. My question might seem far fetched (coz I dont have any offer), but I am still curious, if I should be prepared to accept Nottingham if I get a call (coz if I do, there wont be much time to decide, I can either accept/reject it).

I have read all your reviews on Nottingham, but I am still a lil confused. In general, ppl are more in favor of US MBA than UK. Please throw some light on this.

Cheers,
Dido

I will quote managers not mba's which is a fair critique of the MBA, hope it helps

The trouble with management education is that it is business education, and leaves a distorted impression of management. Management is a practice that has to blend a good deal of craft (experience) with a certain amount of art (insight) and some science (analysis). An education that overemphasizes the science encourages a style of managing I call calculating or, if the graduates believe themselves to be artists, as increasing numbers now do, a related style I call heroic. Enough of them, enough of that. We dont need heroes in positions of influence any more than technocrats. We need balanced, dedicated people who practice a style of managing that can be called engaging. Such people believe that their purpose is to leave behind stronger organizations, not just higher share prices. They do not display hubris in the name of leadership.

Every decade in the United States alone, almost one million people with a credential called the MBA descend on the economy, most with little firsthand knowledge of customers and workers, products and processes. There they expect to manage people who have that knowledge, which they gained in the only way possiblethrough intensive personal experience. But lacking that credential, such people are increasingly relegated to a slow track where they are subjected to the leadership of people who lack the legitimacy to lead.

Most MBA programs today, in the United States and around the world. With a few exceptions, the remaining ones (usually called EMBAs) take more experienced people on a part-time basis and then do much the same thing. In other words, they train the right people in the wrong ways with the wrong consequences. That is because they mostly fail to use the experience these people have.

Leadership is supposed to be something bigger, more important. I reject this distinction, simply because managers have to lead and leaders have to manage. Management without leadership is sterile; leadership without management is disconnected and encourages hubris. We should not be ceding management to leadership, in MBA programs or anywhere else.

Dido , man You got a cool gmat score , you can better wait for US or UK next year. by that time you also will have more work ex+1 year. Also if you want to go to UK(cheaper and good ROI)
try for LSB, Warwick, Imperial college , Henley etc. You can easily get into all the 10 top schools in UK with these academics.
Personally I would recommend US , though alot costlier. But that is the real thing. decide early and act fast. Thats the keyto land up in a good school. I have 590 GMAT and 5 years work ex in enginering, I had nearly made it to warwick (still waiting).
Royal holloway and glasgow are nowhere near the top 10 schools.

Thanks for the inputs. There are somer personal reasons due to which I cant apply to US (even though I want to). What I really wanna know is that if Nottigham is good, how much diff will that make if I go to say Cranfield, Bath sorts next yr than Nottigham dis yr. (I am keen on starting my MBA asap.)
Otherwise, I am looking at other European colleges which have a Jan intake. But I am yet to do more reseach on that.

Actually I think you should not only care about the rankings. Some universities have good rankings but when you visit the campus in person you may find out the whole environment is not as good as you imagined.
Besides, I thind Nottingham University is totally a "ganster". They do lots of indecent behaviours to raise more illegal money. Also, the Nottingham city is dirty full of wierd people. It has the highest criminal rate and compared with other cities in England.
I don't think Nottingham University deserves its honor. In fact its substance is quite rotten.

Dear Ankit,
Congratulations!!!!!!

I also had few admits form UK business schools, including Nottingham. But I have to rethink. I talked to few students from different universities.

The reality is that only MBA can not fetch you job as it is in India. There is no such concept of Placements in UK.

We will spend around 25-30 lakhs (one year salary included).
The job market is not in a very good condition. You have to try for job on your own.

You can ask university about previous batches placements and simultaneously check the web sites of university.

But I feel you will not find details of jobs or placements.

We will get 02 years work permit. But it is possible to live in UK only with some decent job. The living standards are very high.

If you are quite young, say less than 25 years of age, then you can think of struggle and survival.

You also cross link your current profile with the MBA. How you can increase your value for the employers.

But first of all think about the money also. How you will manage the funding.

If you have more time then give best shot for Top MBA schools in UK. The great brand names have good value in market.

Thanks ...

I know that the university has an international reputation and is popular in the UK. When I was going through the process I would contact their students and their alumni directly instead of speaking to them on Open Days to get their opinion on things.

Hi all,
Its nearly one year since, i put some questions on this post. btw i enrolled for Nottingham MBA. And its been an good experience. Frankly I dont know how it would have been anywhere else.
@Ankit, If you are doing marketing and all i think MS is a good option, i heard from few friends in aston that they are good in that. Overall it depends how much value, one can extract from these courses in UK, from career point of view, in the long run, that too.
@deepali
Nottingham is way way better than sheffield, I've been to sheffield. It is a nice city, but their MBA is a joke, and i am not kidding. Not that I am biased towards nottingham but frankly theres no comparison, unless nottingham has fallen down on rankings, as it has.

Thanks ...

I know many people who have been to Nottingham University and had no problems finding jobs afterwards. Nottingham Business School is considered as a very strong university in the UK.

Whether a school has moved up or down the rankings is not THAT vital in my eyes, because recruiters' opinions will anyway be a at least a few years "behind". So really, I wouldn't listen to the newest hype about this school or that. I would trust the little older data as what most employers will think.

It's kind of confusing. Especially because NTU is home of the "Nottingham Business School"

yes it is its Post Study Work Permit. and if you cant get through this jan then surely look for MBA than MSc since MBA will expose you to better opportunities then MSc even in India.

The scrapping of the PSW is true - and will become valid from April 2011. They're trying to bring a cap to immigration etc etc - which is quite a pain really. I'm in the UK right now, and will be applying for my PSW by next month! Quite anxious about it!

And regarding Nottingham University Business School, it is supposed to be quite good, and it is not the same as Nottingham Trent University!

As of now, you are eligible to get work permit after completing your degree. but nothing is certain yet, every thing will depend once they come out with some final decision on PSW.

Sorry to mix up my query into this active thread:
Dear Active users,
I am bit confused while chosing right B-school for aspiring for a MBA program in UK. Just to brief about my profile that I am an enginering graduate in Computer Sc and have 14+ yrs exp in IT, currently working for an IT organization in India.

Got few suggestions for :
1. University of Nottingham
2. Henley Business school, (merged into Univerisity of Reading since 2008)
3. University of Durham
4. University of Glasgow
5. University of Bradford
:
Just would like to know as per my profile and age group, which B-school will be more suitable for me?

Many thanks in advance,
Ashish

Your targets should depend totally on your profile. The following criteria will help people advise you better:

Is your 14+ years completely on the technical side or have there been any managerial responsibilities?

What about your GMAT scores and IETLS scores?

Percentage of marks in your degree?

with a good GMAT score (650+), IELTS (more than 7) and around 60% marks in your degree, along with decent managerial exposure, you can easily try for Oxford, Cambridge, Cass, Warwick and LSB.

Anything less in your profile, go for Henley (primarily coz of your 14+ exp.) Strathclyde, Durham, Aston, Leeds etc.

Hope that helps!
